Behind the Mic
Hey, what’s up, everybody? Apologies for the delay. We were just figuring out some last-minute technical difficulties, and of course the timing is perfect as always. But we did figure them out, and we are now here, and we are now live. So thank you for your patience. We are your hosts. My name is Carl, and my co-host Tyler is here. Real quick, for some context, we kick these shows off with a brief discussion about topics that our team has encountered through the week while working with different crypto projects. And usually we bring in a guest to give their perspective on the topics that we find interesting. Our wonderful guest today is Sam Peurifoy, aka Das Kapitalist on Twitter, somebody who just has his fingers on the pulse of so much. So it’s going to be a great show. Sam, welcome. Thank you. Appreciate you guys for having me on. Absolutely. So starting off, this is a topic that comes up a lot: How to make money like Sam Peurifoy? Dude, your tweets, man. I love them. You had one the other day about making money on some of these dApps and games. It went viral and I think we got to start there. Can you unpack that tweet a bit for us? Sure, sure. I actually don’t remember exactly what I wrote, but I can definitely riff. So basically, I think what I tweeted was something like, I’ve made a lot of money in these dApps and games and gave some examples, but what does that actually mean, right? So in the tweet, I mentioned Blaster, which is a trading card game on the Ethereum blockchain that I play quite a bit. Another one is Yolo Games. It’s another game I invested in quite heavily. And I think the last one I mentioned was Fantasai, which is an analytics platform. These are projects that I’ve vetted myself and decided to go heavy in financially, and they’ve produced significant returns. The big takeaway I wanted people to get is that I’m basically just using three Ethereum in some of these, like Blaster, and the gains have been substantial. And why I wanted to highlight that is there are plenty of ways to make good returns without a massive bankroll if you know where to look. Now, I get that what I’m suggesting might not be accessible to everyone, but the principles I’m using can apply broadly. Whether it’s through research, making connections, or just being strategic about your plays. That makes a lot of sense. A lot of folks out there are trying to navigate the space with smaller bankrolls, and it’s always good to see examples of success in a landscape dominated by large players and venture capital. Thanks for that breakdown. And speaking of bankrolls and navigating with them, let’s discuss Jackpot and ask you if you think Blast Jackpot is the most significant development in the L2 ecosystem or maybe even in the broader Ethereum space in recent years? Well, that’s a big statement, but I do think Blast’s Jackpot feature is a major one. The numbers alone are persuasive, right? We’ve seen heavy hitters like Pac Moon, and Thruster LP’s showing significant gains. And with Blast Jackpot, people have seen massive returns in a very short time. So I think for 2024, it’s definitely one of the most important things to happen in blockchain finance. But just like any gold rush, there will be winners and losers, and it requires careful navigation. Absolutely. It’s about playing smart. And on that note, let’s pivot a bit and talk about some of the challenges and learnings you’ve faced. What were some surprising things you found when diving into specific dApps, and maybe what didn’t go well? Yeah, sure, man. One of the surprising things is how some dApps were way more beneficial than I initially anticipated. For example, the Tweet where I talked about dApps that didn’t require massive amounts of capital really caught fire. Most folks would think significant money requires significant investment, but that’s not always the case. But I think one example of things not going well was Fantasai. Despite being an excellent analytical tool, it suffered from constant technical issues, which frustrated a lot of users, including myself. Another letdown was the platform Juice; it was supposed to farm Blast gold efficiently, but the execution just didn’t hit the mark compared to its potential. These learning curves are critical in steering where I put my money next. Yeah, it’s often those finer details and hiccups that make or break an investment. Thanks for sharing that. Let’s move to NFT markets. You’ve been very vocal about NFTs and have a deep affinity with that space. What’s exciting you there, what should people be looking at? Oh man, NFTs, where to start? It’s still an exciting and evolving space, but what really gets me excited right now are utility-driven NFTs. Projects like Punk 9059 from Memeland leveraging NFTs in innovative ways beyond just art. Another exciting one is Pixelmon; they’re building something significant with tangible in-game assets that have real value. Utility NFTs are definitely where I see the next wave of massive opportunities arising. The more they integrate into functional ecosystems, the better their value propositions become. Some really cool projects there for sure. So speaking of concrete opportunities and tangible value, what’s your take on the roadmaps and execution strategies of these projects? Do you reckon they will deliver as projected, or should we stay skeptical? I’m cautiously optimistic. Roadmaps are essential but often overly optimistic. So for every Memeland that promises utility and follow-through, there are a dozen others that won’t make the finish line. I’m looking for solid teams, transparency, and a track record of execution. Promising roadmaps are great, but a team that can pivot and adapt is crucial. The NFT space changes so rapidly, and the ability to navigate through the unexpected is key. Very true, adaptability is a massive factor in any tech-driven project. Other than NFTs and jackpots, anything else in the ecosystem that you’re looking into? Traditional DeFi staking platforms, like Wasabi or Bloom, and projects like Thruster have also been avenues of interest. Especially those incorporating gaming elements. It makes staking engaging and not just a wait-and-see game. The idea that thrilling gamified experiences can coexist with good returns is pretty compelling to me. Definitely compelling. Gamification always adds that layer of user engagement that’s hard to beat. Before we wrap up, any parting advice for folks trying to make their way in crypto? Be curious yet cautious. Don’t jump into trends without understanding them deeply. Dedicate time to doing your homework. Be strategic: it’s not about spreading your capital everywhere but placing informed and calculated bets. Diversify, but always know what you’re getting into. Fantastic advice, appreciate it. And thank you again, Sam, for your time. This was such a great chat. Anytime, guys. Pleasure to be here. Alright, folks, that’s it for this session. Thanks for tuning in, and we’ll catch you next time.
